About Guizhou Institute of Technology

Guizhou Institute of Technology (GIT) is a provincial university approved by the Ministry of Education of the PRC, which is molded into a polytechnic institute focused on engineering to invigorate Guizhou Province’s industry and urbanization proposed by the Guizhou Government. GIT started admitting students from 2013. currently with a scale of 9,000 full-time undergraduate students.

In conformity with the principle of “High Starting Point, Open Style”, and with the educational ideas of “Laying Solid Foundation; Improving Ability; Ensuring Quality; Cultivating Unique Features”, GIT is implementing the connotative development strategy of “Innovating University through Characteristics; Building University on Quality; Promoting University by Talents; Strengthening University with Scientific Researches; ” to build a high-level science and engineering university which emphasizes the combination of knowledge and skills. While giving the first place to Engineering specialties, and also incorporating Science, Management, and Economics, GIT has been strengthening its discipline construction characterized by coordinated multi-disciplinary development with distinctive features and a reasonable structure. GIT regards the cultivation of specialized engineering personnel with the sense of responsibility, abundant knowledge acquisition, good managerial skills, strong practical ability and power of innovation as the foundation of the university, and promoting the ability for national and regional development of economy and society as a way to strengthen the school. GIT is now making its efforts to perfect the university which would meet the national and provincial needs of the development strategy and industry growth, aiming at becoming one of the top-ranking universities in the southwest of China.

Covering an area of 866.7 acres, GIT is located in the Forest City Guiyang, the summer resort in southwest of China. At present, the building area occupies 274,000 square meters. With the total value of teaching and research equipment reaching 128.2 million RMB, the university has 688,826 books, 15 digital databases, 48 workshops both outside and inside the university, and 2 indoor gyms.

GIT now has 710 faculty members, 140 of which hold a doctoral degree, 373 of which hold a master’s degree, and 47 of which are professors. Up to now, GIT has established an energetic professional faculty of outstanding quality that is suited to the needs of its students.

The university has 16 schools and 19 undergraduate programs. The Mineral Resource Prospecting and Exploration, Management Science and Engineering, and Computer Application Technology are three key disciplines supported by the Guizhou Province.

GIT is vigorously implementing the strategy of developing the university through science. It has established four scientific research platforms of provincial level, including The Collaborative Innovation Center of Special Function Materials of Guizhou Province 2011, The Academician Workstation of Guizhou Institute of Technology, Guizhou Industrial Development Research Center and The Key Laboratory of Electric Big Data. The Engineering Training Center of GIT has been classified as the Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. Guizhou Provincial Education Department has approved the building of “Key Laboratory of Phosphorite Resource Clean and Efficient Utilization of Guizhou Regular Institutions of Higher Education”, “Agricultural Big Data Research Center of Guizhou Regular Institutions of Higher Education”, “Innovation Team of Intelligent Optimization and Data Mining of Guizhou Regular Institutions of Higher Education”and “Innovation Team of Concealed Deposit Exploration of Guizhou Regular Institutions of Higher Education”. Besides, Guizhou Provincial Department of Science and Technology has approved the building of “Innovation Team of Aeronautical Light Metallic Materials and Welding Technology”. In addition, GIT has founded 20 university-level research institutes, 8 scientific research laboratories and engineering research centers.

Guizhou Institute of Technology (GIT) was officially approved by the Ministry of Education on April 18, 2013. It is a provincial-level full-time public ordinary undergraduate college specialized in engineering, science and management. The school has 19 colleges and 38 undergraduate majors. It has co-established the Electrical Engineering and Automation major with University of Bedford, UK, GIT has 13,080 full-time undergraduate now. In April 2016, the school was granted by the Ministry of Education the eligibility of enrolling foreign students.

The school is located in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province in the southwest of China. It is divided into two campus. The Guijiaguan Campus is located on the bank of Aha Lake in southwest Guiyang, and the Gui’an New District College Town, surrounded by beautiful mountains anf waters. GIT, adhering to the motto of “practice, morality and knowledge”, strive to build a satisfactory first-class university of technology in west China.

History

The predecessor of the modern Guizhou University was known as the Guizhou Institute of Higher Learning (贵州大学堂), which was founded in 1902. The institute evolved into the Provincial Guizhou University (省立贵州大学), National Guizhou College of Agriculture and Engineering (国立贵州农工学院), and finally National Guizhou University (国立贵州大学).

In 1997, the Guizhou Agricultural College, Guizhou Institute of Arts, and Guizhou Agricultural Cadre-Training School were merged into NGU to form Guizhou University.

In 2004, the Guizhou University of Technology merged into Guizhou University to complete the current Guizhou University. In 2005, the university was invited as a member of Project 211 by the Ministry of Education.

The university is included in the Chinese state Double First Class University Plan.

Guizhou University established a sister school relationship with the Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina; the latter offers a Chinese language program for the fifteen American students every year.

Rankings and reputation

Guizhou University ranked the best in Guizhou Province by several major international university rankings.[6][7][4][8] As of 2022, Guizhou University ranked 579th by SCImago Institutions Rankings among research universities around the world.[6] The 2021 CWTS Leiden Ranking ranked Guizhou University at 755th in the world based on their publications for the period 2016–2019.[8] The university was ranked 701-800th globally by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).[9] The Nature Index 2021 Annual Tables by Nature Research ranked Guizhou University at 335th among leading academic research institutions in the Asia-Pacific for the high quality of research publications in natural science.[10]

As of 2021, Guizhou University ranked 135th in China by the Academic Ranking of World Universities and 164th by the U.S. News & World Report Best Global University Ranking.

Campus

Guizhou University has nine campuses situated in different locations around the city of Guiyang. The administrative center is located on the North Campus on the Huaxi River, Huaxi District of Guiyang.
