The Upcoming Changes to the HSK Exam in March 2022

The HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi),

China’s standardized test of Chinese proficiency,

is set to undergo significant changes in March 2022.

The changes will impact both the test structure and content,

and will affect those preparing to take the exam in the near future.

  • New Scoring System

One of the major changes to the HSK exam is the introduction of a new scoring system. The current scoring system will be replaced with a six-level grading system, which aligns with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The new system will provide a more accurate assessment of a candidate’s proficiency level and will make it easier for employers and educational institutions to compare results across different languages.

  • Changes To Its Content

In addition to the new scoring system, the HSK exam will also undergo changes to its content. The new exam will focus more on communication skills and practical applications of the language, rather than just grammar and vocabulary. The new exam will also include more listening and speaking components, as well as an increased emphasis on reading comprehension and writing skills.

  • High Demand

The HSK exam is becoming more important than ever, as Chinese language skills continue to be in high demand in both the business and academic worlds. With these changes to the exam, candidates will need to adjust their preparation strategies to ensure they are adequately prepared for the new format and content.

Despite the challenges that come with changes to any standardized test, the new HSK exam presents an opportunity for individuals to improve their Chinese language skills and demonstrate their proficiency in a more comprehensive way. With the right preparation and dedication, the new HSK exam can be a stepping stone towards achieving one’s personal and professional goals in Chinese language and culture.
